[EDIT]Quick labtop update - all the data has been saved! But Jack is all disassembled and in need of some new parts, so he's being sent off to another Apple Doctor to be taken care of. I should have him back all wiped and clean right after Otakon, and we'll be able to get all the old data reinstalled shortly after. All this for the low low price of $500.

So it seems my Macbook Pro, Jack, may have kicked the bucket yesterday, after about three-and-a-half years. He's at the Apple Doctor right now, and it'll take a few days before they get a chance to look at him and tell me what's up.

I got an external hard drive for my birthday back in March, but I'm terrible with these kinds of things - software, hardware, anything computer-y - I'm just not good with them. The last time I tried to get the external HD to work the way I wanted, I ended up accidentally deleting 400 photos, so I haven't touched it since. Though now I wish I had, because I may or may not have lost every single piece of digital artwork I've produced since May 2006. Since I can't even turn my laptop on, saving my digital artwork depends on whether or not the people at the computer place can either get it up and working again, or do a data extraction directly from the hard drive, (if they can just salvage the .psd's and maybe some photos in there, I'll be fine. If they can't... well crap). And it's gunna cost me somewhere between $400 - $900 depending on the damage.

So I can FORGET about that DSlite I was thinking of getting. If this ends up costing $900, I'm just going to get a new laptop AND a new tablet, (my current one is also almost four years old and scratched up as heck). There goes my AX earnings and then some. ><;;;

In the meantime, I've got the big beautiful G5 in the living room that has no scanner, no tablet, and no working version of Photoshop (WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS THING IF I CAN'T DRAW ON IT?!). So I guess I won't be making anything new for Otakon this year. :'C Though con-wise, the good news is that between me and ~finni, about 90% of my convention merchandise has been saved on her computer and my flash drive, (PHEW). So at least I still have the chance to make a little more money to pay for all this at Otakon. For the sake of saving my art, I hope Otakon goes very, very well. T___T;;;

I'll keep you guys posted once I know more. :C Here's hoping Jack isn't too fried.
