I KNOW THE KANJI IS WRONG so please don't tease me. TAT;;;

Another Materials and Techniques class project. This time we had to choose from a variety of places, people, actions, and vehicles to draw, and create a story out of them in an inkwash painting. I chose a couple fighting in a Tokyo marketplace with a vespa in the background. Since I mixed two allergy medicines with painkillers and strong tea the day we started, my main character came out kind of... crazy! She probably mixed her pills with caffeine too. I am doing that again.

Materials: 11x17'' watercolor paper, red pencil, pencil, copic liners, Higgins Black Magic Ink, Black Sumi Ink, masking fluid, various brushes, white gel pen, white gouache.

I like the way you chose to arrange the value scale. The different grays came out looking great. I think it's neat how you gave the background a lighter grayish wash and the foreground a bolder, stronger look. The picture itself has lots of depth because of that :).

Haha, you still remember how to write Japanese!!! XD

Great job on this, it must take an enormous amount of effort to do all that inking. I don't think I would have the patience to do something like that xD

For some reason I'm in love with the expressions of the people in the background. They're so cute xD

The inkwash process isn't bad for one piece, but I could never imagine doing BOOKS like this. x___x;;;

Your people are really stiff for what they are doing, especially the girl in the center. The way you have her posed it seems like the bucket/basket/fruit container has almost no weight to it. I also kinda wish their were more detail on the people in the background. I know you want the focus on the main couple, but they seem abstracted to the point where they are almost cardboard cut outs now, which seems out of place with the nicely detailed fruits and and teenagers that are center staged. However, I LOVE the attention to detail on all the fruit, which is why the cardboard people make me sad.

It's easier to have the patience when you know you're going to be graded by the most nit-picky professor in the department. TAT;;

Haha, yes, lots of eggplant. Had to fill it up with a minimal amount of kanji knowlege. x__x;;;
