Katara as the Painted Lady, commissioned by this wonderful gentleman, who commissioned me once before at Anime Boston. I don't think I've ever gotten a better convention commission - he asked me to draw MY favorite Avatar character. *__*;;; Didn't think I'd ever see that drawing of Song again, (thanks for scanning it)!
Even though this was the third time I'd been commissioned for Katara, I was really excited to draw her as the Painted Lady. For a only robe with rope, this outfit is deceptively complicated. Drawing it once has scared me out of ever wanting to cosplay it. xD;; Her entire robe is a mix of about six different colors because I don't own anything remotely close to its correct color. My markers kept drying out halfway through, so towards the bottom I had to start mixing different colors to keep it looking consistent. It was an accident, but I really like how the fabric turned out - it's like some stained old fishing boat sail she found to create her makeshift costume. Materials: 9x12'' bristol board, 0.5 mechanical pencil, uniball singo DX 0.28 brown liner, copic markers, white gel pen. Background texture added in Photoshop.
