Artist's Comments

Just some lineart revisited for some quick toning practice, done during my sanity breaks from midterms. x__x;; I'm still really terrible at toning in Photoshop, and can't seem to make my tones look... not sandy. - . -;;; Will probably scrap this later.

Hm, I'm not sure what you're worried over, these look very good in my opinion!

I think my only concern would be the left picture's knee caps/highlights, and the forhead on the right. I think the covering of the entire knee may have thrown you off, and I feel as though circular highlights like those don't work as well if you want a 'truer' looking toning.

As for the other, I think a change in the 'lightness' of the tone would help, as it seems to blend in with his hair.

Hope you don't mind the crit! All in all, these are certainly well done~!

I never figured out how to do tones in Photoshop >_<
I just went ahead and bought comicworks ^_^
You did a good job though! I really like the highlights in her hair and the overall toning on the one on the right.

Kingdom Hearts is awesome. In fact, it ROXAS!!

Toning in PS is a toughy, but what I've noticed is you want to resize AFTER toning to make sure it doesn't get gritty. (At least in my experience. Don't quote me on this, but give it a try? >>;;;)

I do want to say the one of Jasper is much more successful than the one on the left. Maybe it's because I'm picky with toning? But Mascot!Girl is so busy. @-@ Maybe it's the bg. xD

The biggest problem with toning on photoshop is finding screentones that are high enough resolution before you resize things. All the tones I have laying around are too small to make anything look halfway decent, so you're better off using the tones in a program like MangaStudio.

I turned these into tones straight from the colors, since... idk how to tone in Photoshop for reals lol. ;3; But yeah, Desu-chan over there is really freaking busy, probably from the bg and gradients. Jasper has no gradients, though the tones on him still came out a little muddy even though I did resize after and everything. Idk man. Toning goes WHOOOSH over my head.

Try getting tone patterns online, overlaying them on the image, then erasing. 8DD;; JUST LIKE REAL TONES FROM REAL LIFE! *dances away*

Actually, I just make most of my own tones directly in Photoshop. D:

Oh wow, that's a lot better than I can do. It sounds tedious though, especially when there are screentone resources floating around out there.
